Debbie delivers a private practice

A PHYSIOTHERAPIST gave birth not only to her new son but to a new business idea while she was on maternity leave.

Debbie Arkley has launched her own private practice to deal with musculoskeletal conditions in Whitley Bay.

The 'mumpreneur' behind Pier Physiotherapy graduated as a physiotherapist in 1997 from the University of Northumbria and over the past 13 years she has developed her knowledge and skills to a highly specialised level.

During this time she has obtained an MSc in Manual Therapy from Manchester University and she also passed the entrance examinations to become a member of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) in 2002.

She said: “I decided that my maternity leave was the ideal time for building the foundations for my new business. I wanted to have more flexibility and a good balance between work and home life.

“I have worked with consultant physiotherapist and now business partner Martin Kay for over nine years. We always talked about running our own practice together and both really wanted a new challenge.”

Pier Physiotherapy is a member of the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice and is recognised by all major health insurance companies and is also HPC registered.
