CALVES

An entry of 195 calves was forward, topped by a £415 was a British Blue bull calf consigned by Messrs Harrington of Mill Rigg Farm. Topping the dairy calves at £200 was an eight week old British Friesian from Messrs Graham of Cardarnock House Farm.

Trade for all classes was very good with good strong Continental cross calves regularly exceeding the £350 mark. Good sorts of dairy calves were the dearest seen for some time; often achieving well in excess of £100.

STORE CATTLE: A good attendance of buyers ensured a marvellous trade for all types of cattle. Top price was £1135 achieved by Messrs E&DW Charlton from Crown Point, for a British Blue heifer. Top price steer was also forward from the same home at £1115 for a British Blue. £850 was the peak of the bull trade for a Limousin from Messrs GH Walton & Son from Greyside Farm, Hexham.
