North East small businesses to get advice on funding

SMALL business owners struggling to get finance from banks will be given the inside track on the funding available to them at a special meeting.

The Federation of Small Businesses has organised an information session for all owners with finance experts on hand to help them get to grips with the regional funding available to them.

And business owners will also find out how they can qualify for research and development tax credits, which can give a major financial boost to businesses, at the meeting on September 12.

Jim Storey, chairman of the South Tyne and Wear Branch, which has organised the event, said: "Many small businesses are still struggling to find affordable finance from banks, but aren't sure where to turn to for funding.

"This session will give them the information they need and they will find out about the regional micro-loan fund and the many other funds available to them. There are a lot available, but it can be confusing, so we're hoping to help small businesses get a full understanding."

He said that many small businesses discount themselves from R&D tax credits because they believe they are only available to certain types of business.

"What the Government classes as research and development is far wider than you would expect. So many businesses could be missing out on saving money.

"We hope as many small business owners as possible attend the meeting because they could leave with knowledge that will give their businesses a financial boost," Mr Storey added.

The meeting will be held at the Sea Hotel, Sea Road, South Shields, on Monday September 12 from 6.30pm. The session is free, but those who would like to attend should book their space by emailing southtynewear.secretary@fsb.org.uk
