RETRO-STYLE ice-cream parlour Lickety Split was named the SME Business of the Year at the Celebration of Enterprise Awards organised by the East Durham Business Service (EDBS).
The awards, now in their eighth year, were presented last week in a ceremony at Ramside Hall in Durham attended by 200 invited guests.
EDBS chief executive Peter Chapman said: “I am delighted that such a diverse range of businesses attended the Celebration of Enterprise Awards this year.
“I have been impressed with the commitment shown by those companies and individuals who have entered the awards.”
The event marked the departure of Nigel Hardy, who stepped down as chair of the EDBS board after almost three years in the position.
He said: “The winners this year whole-heartedly deserve this recognition.
“Not only have we seen the greatest number of entries ever, but they have been of an extremely high standard.
“Well done to all that were shortlisted and congratulations to all that won.
“They have now attained a high standard and I know the awards will continue to grow as a result.
“That has to be good for all businesses in East Durham.”
