Sam Morton on influence
What, in your opinion, is influence?
Influence is about the ability to change things that you want to change – and for me that comes from trying to inspire those around me to work toward my goals, in business and in life.
Is influence the same as power?
I think you can have “power” by simply being the boss and asserting yourself. Influence comes with inspiring others – I guess power is often assertion whilst influence is coercion.
Who or what have you been most influenced by?
In life, my family, and in business my dad, my business partner Nick Imrie and the great team who work for us every day.
Who or what has most benefited from your influence?
I would like to think my children will benefit one day and hopefully all the team at Twenty First Century Media have benefited from what we have achieved and the influence that I have had so far – but you’d have to ask them!
To be influential you must...
Be genuine and committed. If people believe in you they will help you get where you want to get to.
