They're getting it right at Home

KHome International Ltd (KHI), a Tees Valley company with awards for its international trade achievements, is making the most of reinvigorated UK and overseas markets to enhance its reputation as a world-class supplier of engineering design and management services.

Significant capital investments by the UK process industry have resulted in KHI working on feasibility studies and projects at home in the North East of England as well as the North West, South East and Wales. An exciting area of development in which KHI is involved is that of renewable fuels such as bio-diesel for road transport and biomass to replace the burning of fossil fuels in power generation. In the more traditional markets of bulk and fine chemical production KHI is providing services on expansion projects and new plants.

In Dubai KHI’s office continues to grow as it provides valuable services to the booming development in this Arabian Emirate. The expertise and professionalism of KHI’s staff is greatly appreciated by the property developers who are building world class facilities.

KHI’s Thornaby head office continues to work on international projects, most recently in Iran and Venezuela.

KHI have also recently announced the award of a major contract which will form part of the largest greenfield aluminium smelter ever to be built.

Working in collaboration with Italian contractor FATA S.p.A, KHI has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the Casthouse and the Anode Baking Plant by Qatar Petroleum and Hydro Aluminium for the Qatalum aluminium smelter. The project will be carried out in KHI’s Thornaby offices.

The contracts, with an overall value of US$500m, were signed in Doha, Qatar. Construction works will start in early 2008, and production of the casthouse and the anode baking plant will commence in the latter part of 2009.

Andrew Home, Chief Executive of KHI, says: “The award of this project is further evidence of the continuing development of KHI in both national and international markets.

“One of KHI’s great strengths is an ability not only to keep pace with the fast-changing needs of industry, but to anticipate these changes and package a range of services that ensure clients’ aspirations are translated to reality.”

Founded in 1973, KHI’s expertise includes front-end engineering design, feasibility studies, capital cost estimation, risk identification, project and construction management, environmental guidance and compliance and multi-discipline design.

KHI offers customers a total engineering capability – a single organisation able to manage an engineering design and construction project from conception through to commissioning.
