Growth continues at Econnect Construction

Hexham-based Econnect Construction has recruited six electricians in the last four weeks, in order to handle the company's massive growth and new contract wins in Scotland and the North-East.

The new recruits from Stanley, Bedlington, Blyth, County Durham and Barrow-in-Furness are already onsite in areas such as Earlsburn in Scotland and High Pow in Cumbria.

With 10 electrical connection projects on the go at wind farms throughout the UK and Ireland, Econnect Construction is also recruiting engineers and project managers at the moment.

One of the new electricians, John Halliday from Bedlington, previously worked for a major energy business and is excited at being part of such a booming young industry.

John said: "This is a massive growth industry and it's great to be involved. Climate change and carbon emissions are in the news almost every day now and if developers are going to connect to the national grid they're going to need electricians, which is great news for us.

"Econnect Construction has a reputation in renewable energy, with a reputation for getting jobs done, and to budget, so the work is going to be intense, but the rewards are definitely there too."

Econnect Construction managing director Paul Glendinning said: "To take on one or two people at once usually signifies growth.

"But we needed to take on six electricians to fill our existing project needs and are already looking to take on more.

Econnect Construction's project team are expecting to have blades turning at four UK projects during the early part of this year, including High Sharpley in County Durham, High Pow (Cumbria), Bin Mountain (Northern Ireland), and Earlsburn (Scotland).

With a fleet of 22 vehicles and a workforce of over 40 permanent employees, Econnect Construction is fast becoming the lead player in electrical contracting to the renewables industry.
