Carbon footprint can be reduced by using regional warehouse

LOCAL storage is growing in popularity as businesses strive to reduce their environmental impact, according to Lynn Gate, managing director of The Storage Company.

The business, which has a strategic location, just off the A1(M) at Aycliffe Industrial Estate, already provides secure storage for companies including Lidl, Filtronic, ICI and a number of local authorities.

Lynn Gate said: “I believe that local storage will become much more important as pressure grows on businesses to reduce their environmental impact and our roads become more and more congested.

“The recent increase in the amount of storage becoming available locally is evidence that it’s already happening.

“Rather than businesses having enormous centralised distribution at a small number of locations across the country, the increase in journey times caused by traffic congestion and the cost of lost revenue mean that local storage will make more sense.

“Every time I walk into our storage facility I feel proud of what we have. It’s clean, spacious, secure and well organised and our customers are always complimentary of the site and the service they receive.

“With no minimum or maximum length of contract, our flexibility allows our customers to choose how long they want to stay as they go along. Many domestic customers do not know the exact time they may need to store furniture if they are moving house for example, so our flexibility suits them.

“On the other hand we reward our clients who take lengthy contracts by offering a discount on six or 12 month terms.”

The Storage Company Durham has a mixture of unit sizes available from 75sq ft up to 2,000 sq ft of open space and caters for both domestic and commercial customers.

With the cost of office space in the region increasing dramatically for businesses it is becoming more feasible for businesses to store their archive documents or unused equipment/furniture in order to utilise their own space better
rather than increasing the size of their offices.
