Whelan hoping to do double at awards

WHELAN, one of the North-East’s leading construction and development companies was recently shortlisted for two prestigious construction awards. The rapidly-expanding firm has been nominated in the hotly-contested Property Executive North Magazine Award scheme for ‘Best
North-East Construction Firm’.

And proving that Whelan is as well known for its building standards, as its people, managing director Tony Whelan, a popular businessman in the region, has also been nominated for the ‘Construction Personality’ Award.

Sponsored by Land Securities and Investec bank, the awards by the leading property magazine aim to highlight excellence in the industry, with regional heats for the North-West, Yorkshire and the North-East as well as Scotland. Although, this is only the second year of the scheme, the competition
has proved extremely popular, attracting hundreds of entries from around the country.

Some 300 key representatives from the construction industry are expected to attend the awards ceremony in October at the Royal Armories Hotel, Leeds, when the winners will be announced during a live presentation.

Mr Whelan said: “This is great news for us as a company, and very flattering personally. Just to be short-listed with some of the associated companies is an achievement in itself – there are some strong contenders.
