Twenty-two North-East managers recently celebrated gaining their Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) diploma in management.
The diploma from regional enterprise agency Entrust offers international recognition of skills and helps develop managers through the acquisition of skills.
More than 500,000 leaders and managers in the UK have improved their performance and brought benefits to their employers through the ILM management portfolio.
The diploma is for those who are either practising or aspiring senior managers, particularly those who are in post but have had little or no formal training. The 22 North-East managers work in factories and offices, hospitals, call centres, construction, leisure and the voluntary sector.
This practical programme generates immediate payback for managers and their organisations in cost savings and quality improvements.
Entrust recently announced the ILM certificate in management course would be offered to firms in the North-East.
The certificate is aimed at "first-line" managers, supervisors and team leaders with few or no formal qualifications. The certificate can lead to the ILM diploma, equivalent to NVQ level 4 or a degree.
ILM management programme co-ordinator Sheila Godfrey said: "If the North-East is to continue to thrive as a competitive region, qualified, astute managerial and supervisory talent is essential."
