IT WAS the success of CDM Recruitment which drove the company’s directors towards Talent Den, giving them the opportunity they needed to focus on a future strategy.
CDM is a North-East success story and now operates offices in South Tyneside, Middlesbrough and Newcastle with 30 staff who recruit for the construction industry.
Directors Mark Bulmer, Chris Wall and Darren Williams are experts in their field, with a track record that proves their expertise.
But they were also realistic enough to recognise the need for some objective input to drive the company forward.
“CDM has always been very successful and in fact we have over exceeded in reaching the goals we had set and were aware that we wanted more inspiration,” said Mark.
“When you’re a director at the top of your company there really isn’t anyone to go to, no mentor for you and what we wanted to find were people who had been successful in moving forward when they had reached the point we had reached.”
The directors found the support they needed through Talent Den and are now on their second year in the programme.
“Most owner/directors fall into the owner/director syndrome where they are involved in every level of the business which means they have absolutely no time to look at a strategy for where they want to be in three, five and 10 years time,” said Mark.
“That becomes of secondary importance. What Talent Den has done is helped us focus on the challenge of moving the business forward to a strategic level.”
Working with entrepreneurs who are the top of their game has helped Mark, Chris and Darren look at long term plans.
“How it has benefited staff is the fact that we have been able to develop them faster and give them more responsibility which has meant that we have been freed up to look at strategies,” said Mark.
Through Talent Den the directors have stepped out of their comfort zones and have “opened our eyes in terms of what is actually achievable.”
“Talent Den is the sort of mentoring programme that really only works for people who are honest in understanding where they are at and have a real desire to improve,” said Mark.
“It challenges your existing beliefs and mindsets and takes them to another level.”
