AKER Kvaerner Engineering Services’ (Aker Kvaerner) HSE (health, safety and environmental) emphasis was recently rewarded by RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), who announced that Aker Kvaerner won the RoSPA Gold medal award for 2007 and another RoSPA Gold medal award for ACKtiv Nuclear’s (Atkins, Carillion, Aker Kvaerner) work at Sellafield.
The Gold Medal award was presented at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre which runs alongside Safety and Health Expo 2007, the UK’s premier health and safety at work exhibition.
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: “Aker Kvaerner has demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead.”
Bill Tinkler, HSE manager for Aker Kvaerner, commented: “HSE is always a top priority for Aker Kvaerner and these two awards are acknowledgement of the hard work of all of our employees for having strong HSE values”.
Andy Leigh, associate director - nuclear for Aker Kvaerner added: "The award to ACKtiv Nuclear is a tremendous achievement and recognition of the excellent work the team has executed at Sellafield.”
The RoSPA awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; they help to ensure that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place.
Entering the awards scheme reinforces the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.
