Desco welcomes George on board

DESCO, the thriving Sunderland-based engineering consultancy continues to go from strength to strength with a new addition to its board of directors.

The building services consulting engineering practice is delighted to announce that George Gifford will join the board from the beginning of December.

Currently an associate director with Desco, George started in the industry by serving a trade apprenticeship in mechanical engineering before moving into design, studying for a degree and becoming a chartered engineer. George joined Desco in 2004 and has since led a multi-disciplined team on a number of the practice’s major projects; he is currently leading the mechanical and electrical services design for the multi-million pound Stephenson Quarter development in Newcastle City Centre.

George’s appointment is part of a restructuring of the practice to form three design groups. Two of the teams will continue to operate from the business’s office on Doxford International Business Park and the third team will be run by George from a new satellite office in Newcastle.

“These are exciting times for Desco and I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity to help shape the future of the business. I am looking forward to the challenge of developing a team in the Newcastle office,” George said.

Fellow director Paul Marshall added: “We are delighted that George has accepted our invitation to join the board of directors and are confident that he will build a successful team in our new office.”
