Hanbury Davies, known nationally for its high levels of service in container haulage and distribution, has recently opened a new depot in Teesport. The reason for this is clear - to reduce road mileage by serving northern and Scottish towns and cities from Teesport rather than from southern ports such as Felixstowe or Southampton.
“It makes good economic sense to use a northern port to meet the needs of northern consumers and retailers,” said Ian Morton, Senior General Manager of Hanbury Davies. “Teesport is ideally placed for this purpose, and the planned Northern Gateway Container Terminal will make an operating base here even greater sense as we see more container shipping lines choose this point of entry into the UK in the future.
"We have a reputation in our industry for professionalism and efficiency, and our operation from Teesport will enable us to offer unique advantages to our customers.”
The company is already becoming known in Teesport as business relationships with local organisations, shipping lines, and manufacturers and retailers in the north and Scotland are developed. In line with company policy, drivers are also being recruited locally, as are owner operators and hauliers on a sub-contractor basis.
It is expected that the relationships forged today will stand Hanbury Davies and Teesport in good stead when the new £300 million deep-sea facilities come on stream.
“We believe that Teesport has the potential to be our second largest operating centre,” continued Mr Morton.
“Our Operations Manager here, Piers Kilfoyle, shares our vision of putting the strength of our business to good use for our northern customers. Why not give him a call to discuss your transport requirements?”
About Hanbury Davies
In less than a decade, Hanbury Davies has grown to become one of the largest privately-owned road transport companies in the UK with interests in container transport, chilled and ambient distribution and bespoke logistics solutions.
The high levels of service it offers are born out of the company’s policy to recruit good quality people and then train them to be the best in the business. This covers traffic operations, fleet management, accounts and admin as well as drivers.
The company is willing to train Class 2 drivers up to Class 1 and is in the throws of developing an intensive Driver Care Induction programme, designed specifically for those drivers who are recently qualified or have minimal experience in container haulage.
Piers Kilfoyle - From driver to Operations Manager
Nine years ago, Piers Kilfoyle started out as a LGV1 driver for Hanbury Davies. Now, he’s Operations Manager at the company’s new Teesport depot.
This shows the sort of opportunities awaiting those people who are eager to learn, willing to work hard and be 100% committed to their career and to Hanbury Davies.
Piers, who comes from out of the area has settled nicely into this new life in Teesport - so much so that his fiancée is shortly to re-locate from the south to join him!
“I’ve found everyone to be very welcoming and helpful. I’m excited about our company’s new venture here in Teesport and the development opportunities available to us. It’s great to be involved from the very start”, said Piers.
