North developers on Expo shortlist

A SHORTLIST of three developers has been announced to develop Britain’s first housing Expo through a £450m regeneration of Scotswood in Newcastle – and two have North East roots.

The chosen consortia are the North East’s Barratt Developments Artisan H Ltd (including Keepmoat, Haslam Homes & Yuill Homes) and Grainger Plc & Places for People along with Persimmon Plc & Cheviot Housing Association.

The three consortia will now begin detailed negotiations with Newcastle City Council, Bridging Newcastle Gateshead and English Partnerships, ahead of producing final tenders.

These will be evaluated in the summer, with the successful partner chosen in October this year.

The Scotswood Expo will be the focus of a comprehensive housing led regeneration of the west end of Newcastle, featuring 1,800 new family homes, retail, commercial and community facilities and improved public parks on a 65-hectare site.
