Herefords sell to a top of 3,000gns at Carlisle

THERE was a small offering of Herefords at Carlisle on Friday, February 29.

The sale, through Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, saw nine bulls selling to average £2,176.00 to a top of 3,000gns for 15-month old Romany 1 Diamond R22 D22 by Crickley 1 Figurehead, bred and exhibited by J.R.B. Wilson & Sons, Kelso, and selling to J.G. Brown, Hilton Herefords, Anstruther, Fife.

Messrs Wilson also sold the joint top priced heifer, 21-month old Romany 1 Mink R22 C63, also by Crickley 1 Figurehead, selling for 2,300gns. to J. Torrance & Son, Knowetop Herefords, Hamilton, Strathclyde.

Mr. T. Rennie from Guthrie, By Forfar, sold 20-month-old Mosston Muir 1 Crawford by Barwise 1 Wellington for 2,900gns to Herefordshire breeders, P. & A. Allman, Greenyards Herefords, Marden, and a 23-month old heifer, Mosston Muir 1 Crystal, also by “Wellington”, for 2,300gns to N.J. Holmes, Holmebrook Herefords, Wolverhampton, W. Midlands.

Other leading prices in the Bull Section included: 21-month-old Panmure 1 Champagne Charlie C13 by FS 1 Versache, bred and exhibited by J.M. Cant & Partners, Angus, Tayside, selling for 2,600gns to H. & J. Parkin-Coates, Elmstone Farm, Doncaster, Yorkshire.

Twenty-six-month-old Barwise 1 Christmas Knight, by Barwise 1 Wellington, bred and exhibited by Mrs Carolyn Fletcher, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, selling for 2,300gns to S.W. Clarke, Dunstall Herefords, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

Nineteen-month-old Hilton 1 Duke by Dieulacresse Vodaphone bred and exhibited by Hilton Partnership of Anstruther, Fife, selling for 2,000gns to R. Sabiston, Finstown, Orkney.

Nineteen-month-old Auckvale Dynamo 658D by Longville Vaquero, bred and exhibited by W. & R. Kemp & Sons of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, selling for 1,800gns to R.P. Mann, Spinney Herefords, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Seventeen-month-old Hollowseal 1 Daniel by Lynsore 1 Wisdom, bred and exhibited by D.D. Rowley & Partners, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, selling for 1,750gns to Messrs Hewson, Carlisle, Cumbria.

The total clearance of the heifers on offer saw the eight selling to average £1,575.00 and, in addition to those already mentioned, included the 25-month-old heifer Barwise 1 Calendula by Barwise 1 Wellington from Carolyn Fletcher, Cumbria, selling for 1,900gns to N.J. Holms, W. Midlands. Twenty-month-old Hilton 1 Cara Mayflower by Udel 1 Steinbeck, bred and exhibited by Hilton Partnership, Fife, sold for 1,500gns to H. Crowther, Greenfield, Oldham. The show classes were sponsored by Blue Merle Ltd., Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
