Butcher goes for Scotch quality

A BUTCHER in County Durham is cementing its links with Scotch Premier Meat, Scotland’s leading red meat company.

H Coates & Son Butchers in Framwellgate Moor is currently stocking Highland Lamb, processed through Scotch Premier’s EU-approved facility at Royal Dornoch in Sutherland.

Highland Lamb production is based on a unique partnership involving lamb producers, finishers and processors. Key to this is a dramatically shortened supply chain – a widely recognised factor in reducing animal stress, resulting in a product with greatly improved eating quality.

Scotch Premier’s managing director Raymond Wight said: “The aim of the partnership is to provide consumers with tender, succulent lamb which has all the flavour and taste you would expect from stock traditionally reared in the natural environment of the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

“This requires attention to detail at every stage of production – from rearing through to selection, transportation, finishing, process- ing maturation and distribution.”

H Coates & Son also sources regular supplies of Scotch Premier Beef and owner Harry Coates often visits the company’s farms and processing plants to make his own quality checks.
