A TALENTED Newcastle University student is set to begin his summer placement with a leading North East IT consultancy this week.
Gabriel Radu who is an undergraduate at Newcastle University will be joining the team at Durham-based Waterstons for the next three months.
He won the opportunity to undertake the placement after achieving the top average grade in his class, an impressive 94%, for the 1st year of his Computing Science degree. Gabriel will also be presented with a new laptop by Waterstons as recognition for his hard work.
Steve Riddle, lecturer and Placements Co-ordinator in the School of Computing Science at Newcastle University, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for Gabriel. Industry experience is invaluable to graduates, particularly with an organisation as well respected as Waterstons."
The students on the Computing Science course learnt of the prize when Waterstons Managing Director, Mike Waterston visited the university to deliver a lecture on Entrepreneurship in February. Mike said "Waterstons are committed to encouraging the talented graduates that come out of the local universities to stay in the region. We regularly recruit from the North East universities and are always impressed by the calibre of graduates."
