Runners-up are outstanding too
THREE Teesside entrepreneurs - all challengers in the recent If We Can, You Can competition - have received Sprit of Enterprise awards.
More than 100 people entered this year’s bid to find the regional faces of entrepreneurship.
Teesside mum Louise Bell, 36, from Stockton, emerged as the Teesside winner with her home-based Healthy Glow spray tanning business. However The Entrepreneurs’ Forum, If We Can, You Can organisers, have decided to acknowledge the best of the rest with a special accolade.
Each was deemed to have demonstrated an impressive determination to succeed, often overcoming a challenge or stereotype.
Deemed to have the true grit needed to succeed were Vinnie Morgan, who started his creative Mango Studio straight after leaving Teesside University in 2007; Middlesbrough logistics engineer Derek Foxcroft, who left his job to start a renewable energy business; and Clare Fenwick of Hartlepool, who started Kudos Coaching.
Carole Beverly, chief executive of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, said: “The challenge received many astounding entrants this year, and we were keen to also recognise those who started or grew their business from a variety of backgrounds.”
The If We Can, You Can website has also been updated to make it easier for likeminded entrepreneurs to network with each other and forum mentors.
“It’s all about signposting people on how to best access the great support the North-east has to help those setting up and growing businesses,” said Ms Beverly.
