Pub chain steaming ahead with new bar

PUB group The Head of Steam is to open its fifth outlet in its home city of Newcastle. The Shamrox at 10 North- umberland Road, Newcastle, is close to the City Hall, the city's two universities and just round the corner from the Haymarket.

Tony Brookes, managing director of The Head Of Steam , said: "This is a potentially tremendous acquisition, but also a tremendous challenge.

"Shamrox – which is being re-named LYH – is, inside, a beautiful, big pub , well fitted out, though it will benefit further from being under our wing. The pub has had many names over the years - Tavern, City Tavern, Steppes, Huxters and more - and no-one seems to have been able to make a success of it – we aim to change that!”.

The pub has been bought from the Centro Pub Company, and follows the recent takeover of the former Reform Place in Durham city from them.

This acquisition brings to five the number of venues operated by The Head Of Steam Ltd in Newcastle, the others being The Head of Steam, Tilleys, the Cluny and Cluny 2.
