ENTERPRISE company Tedco is celebrating after winning an award for showing the rest of the UK how to manage business incubator spaces.
The South Tyneside-based business advice organisation has received national recognition for the two incubators it runs – WorkSpace in Berwick and the Quadrus Centre in Boldon.
Berwick WorkSpace, which opened earlier this year, scooped the New Incubator of the Year award at the UK Business Incubation awards held in Bristol. The centre, which was commissioned and owned by Berwick Borough Council and Northumberland County Council, is managed by Tedco.
The building – the first significant new commercial development in Berwick’s town centre for 25 years – offers accommodation and support services for new enterprises. It has attracted business from Yorkshire, Scotland and Spain as well as Northumberland in the seven months since it opened. WorkSpace manager Andrew Martin said: “We are thrilled to be acknowledged as the Best New Incubator in the UK. Tedco is passionate about business incubation and has worked hard to make Berwick WorkSpace the success that it is today.
“We feel the centre is a jewel in Berwick’s crown and we have a real commitment to the area.”
The Quadrus Centre was runner-up in the Established Incubator category of the awards. Tedco’s business incubator and workspace manager Deborah Evans said: “We have invested a considerable amount of time and resource in developing our business incubation services and this award highlights our dedication to this important area of economic development. To win one award and come runner-up in another is a huge achievement and we plan to build on this success.”
