Firm ready to pick up new business

A CONSULTANCY working to reduce accidents and employee absences among its public sector clients is expanding to work with business customers.

Former NHS nurse Iain Bolton set up Iain Bolton Associates in Ashington five years ago to advise clients on improving working practices to reduce time off from accidents.

Mr Bolton, who specialises in moving and handling patients, currently works mainly with NHS primary care trusts, social services and housing authorities.

The consultancy is now diversifying into the private sector after physiotherapist Barbara Frew joined the company to offer specialist clinical advice to business.

Ms Frew, who will work from her home in Crook, County Durham, is aiming to work with businesses such as vets, factories and shops which have staff who regularly need to lift heavy objects.

She will also work with office staff who use computers all day and help to ensure companies are working within the display screen equipment regulations.

Mr Bolton said: “We have an excellent reputation for helping our clients work safely with their clients – many of whom are very vulnerable and require special attention, in particular when lifting them for treatment is concerned.

“A third of all reported injuries at work result in three or more days’ absence, so if we can reduce this by training and providing comprehensive risk assessments, then we not only save the client money, but also a lot of pain and distress.”
