Trips to Turkey ruined as ScotTravel Holidays collapses

A statement posted on ScotTravel’s website said: “We regret to inform you that as from 4th June 2009, ScotTravel Holidays has ceased trading. Any customers with inquiries should refer to the caa website at www.caa.co.uk For any forward departures passengers should not make their way to the airport.”

A statement from Newcastle International Airport said: “Newcastle International Airport has been informed that ScotTravel Holidays Limited has ceased trading. All holidays with the company are cancelled from today, June 4, 2009.

“Customers due to travel on a ScotTravel holiday or flight from Newcastle International are asked not to arrive at the airport. The CAA will be making arrangements for customers currently on holiday with ScotTravel to allow them to remain in their holiday accommodation and fly home at the end of their trip as planned.”

ScotTravel Holidays – which was based in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland – is the 15th travel company to go bust this year.

The firm’s collapse comes after Newcastle-based online holiday retailer Freedom Direct closed down in April.

Some 2,600 holidays were affected while 109 staff at the company’s headquarters in Gosforth, Newcastle, lost their jobs. They were later re-employed when the company was bought out by North East rival Hays Travel.

Customers booked with ScotTravel are advised to contact the Civil Aviation Authority on (020) 7453-6700 or visit www.caa.co.uk and click on ‘latest news’.
