IN the 'need it now' arena of the marine and offshore sector, Hydraulic & Offshore Supplies (HOS) has made a name for itself for the timely delivery of anything from a single fitting, flange or hose, to a complete project.
Working with international companies operating throughout the world, HOS is a specialist supplier of hydraulic tube, fittings, instrumentation and pipeline materials.
Over the course of its 25 years in business, HOS has steadily grown its export interests.
Based in Sunderland, HOS is ideally located to air-freight or sea-freight materials to all four corners of the world.
In addition to the very extensive and comprehensive range of products carried in stock, the company is constantly building on its unique specialist knowledge to locate non-standard items and manufacture fittings and materials to meet customers’ specific needs.
Due to its extensive experience with the oil, gas and ship repair sector, HOS have continually managed to adapt to economic conditions.
Its website now enables users to download technical manuals and product brochures, making products easier to specify.
The internet has also changed the company’s marketing plan. Regular marketing emails are sent to promote products, its online store and website.
HOS has found this an invaluable way of targeting a large audience.
By using Social Media sites, HOS has also been able to continuously update its customers on products and events taking place within the company.
HOS has recently participated in several market visits in conjunction with NOF Energy and UKTI, to Brazil, Singapore and Malaysia, resulting in significant success.
Sales manager, Don Fenwick, explains: “Overseas markets are set to become increasingly important in future, with Brazil identified as of particular interest.
Following a recent visit to Brazil, we were awarded an order for high pressure hose assemblies and stainless steel fittings worth over £200,000.
“However, we will be continuing to look after our existing client base while we grow our export sales and product range.
“Our main priority is balanced growth and selecting clients and projects without compromise to our existing contracts.”
Due to these increased overseas visits and working closely with current and potential customers, HOS has increased its export turnover by 80% over the last two years.
This has been recognised with success in two prestigious business awards.
“We were delighted to have been a finalist in the NOF Energy Awards 2011 in the International Business category and to be shortlisted for the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2012 in the International Trade category is also amazing,” said Don.
“All of our staff have worked extremely hard for these results. We are pleased that in the current economic climate we can have such continued success. To be recognised by the Queen’s Award Office and NOF Energy is extremely rewarding.”
