Winner: Large Employer of the Year
COMMUNITY regeneration specialists, Frank Haslam Milan (North East) Ltd, based in Sunderland, has been named the CoLaS Awards 2009 Large Employer of the Year, sponsored by Investors in People North East.
As part of the Keepmoat Group, the company employs almost 500 people at its North East branch. It puts its success down to encouraging its workforce to think big, take pride in their jobs and always strive to reach their full potential.
To do this, Frank Haslam Milan has developed an open and supportive working culture. Employees are given regular training, flexible working conditions and the chance to influence what the company does and how it does it.
This means 100 employees have recently completed leadership and management training. On top of this, 300 have taken equality and diversity training and five are training to become environmental practitioners. There are also 24 joinery apprentices and nine trainee quantity surveyors, along with programmes in place to develop the skills of site construction staff.
The CoLaS Award is one of a number of accolades bestowed upon the company. It was also among the top 30 companies to work for in the UK, as voted for by the Sunday Times in 2007.
