3M voted one of the best firms to work for
WORKERS at a hi-tech Tees Valley manufacturer have plenty to celebrate after being named one of Europe’s top employers.
3M, which has offices in Newton Aycliffe and Northallerton, has been voted Europe’s fourth best company to work for.
The firm, which employs about 320 at the Aycliffe site and many more worldwide, lies alongside IT giants Microsoft and Google in the list of the 50 best places to work, published by the Financial Times. The league is compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute using 15 national studies across Europe.
Keith Willson, the Aycliffe site manager, said: “3M is an organisation committed to doing business the right way. We have an open and collaborative culture and believe in treating our employees fairly and with respect.
“The results of this are shown by the average length of service of our UK employees being more than 15 years - and there are many 20, 25 and 30-year service plaques to be seen around our sites, indicating that 3M is a special place to work.”
3M, which manufactures respirators at the Aycliffe site, was higher in the list than human resources giant PwC, which came in tenth.
Microsoft was voted the best place to work, followed by Google in second place and IT equipment supplier Cisco in third.
