Charity pair in the fast lane
TWO employees at JenningsMazda in Middlesbrough will soon be putting their best feet forward in a bid to raise money for charity.
Based at the group’s Cargo Fleet Lane branch, sales executives, Adam Price, 23, from Middlesbrough, and Jason Thomas, 21, from Ormesby, are following a strict fitness regime with one objective in mind - to successfully complete the 27th Redcar Half Marathon 2009 for their chosen charities, Macmillan Cancer and male cancer organisation Everyman.
Adam is no stranger to participating in marathons, having successfully completed the Toronto Marathon in Canada with his younger brother, Simon, last October.
“It was my first attempt at completing a marathon, so naturally I was a little apprehensive about doing it for charity,” said Adam.
Successfully completing the run in four hours and 26 minutes, however, not only instilled confidence, but also determination and inspiration to successfully complete another event.
“I was sat at work one day talking to Jason about wanting to do something for charity and he came up with the Redcar Half Marathon, but said he was keen to take part too, which was great.”
For the past couple of months, the dedicated duo have been following a strict diet of healthy food and regular exercise, which they hope will pay off when they raise £1,000 for their chosen charities.
And the fundraising doesn’t stop there. In the near future, Adam is hoping to organise a cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
The 13.1-mile Redcar Half Marathon, which is organised in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Council, will be on Sunday, April 19.
The event also includes a 3km Family Fun Run which takes place in the grounds of Kirkleatham Showfield the same day.
