50 reasons to be proud

Alastair MacColl Chief Executive at Business & Enterprise North East

ONCE again the Fastest 50 represents an opportunity to celebrate the many success stories in the region. It reinforces the resilience, passion and talent of the North East business community. It's something we all should be proud of.

All of the businesses featured – and many more across the region – have shown that the spirit of enterprise is alive and kicking in the North East and there is an air of confidence that we’ll continue to generate some great opportunities over the next decade. Despite the challenges that businesses have faced over the past 12 months, businesses in our region are clearly determined to grasp these opportunities as the economy begins to pick up.

Throughout the past year businesses in the North East have remained positive and they have recorded some fantastic achievements which should be celebrated at every opportunity. The North East is home to many outstanding companies that have made a significant contribution to the economic prosperity of the UK. Our region can boast superb firms that sit at the heart of the economy, businesses that have developed world-leading products, services that compete in a global marketplace and pioneer new ways of working that help to position the region as an internationally renowned hub for the development of technology.

At Business & Enterprise North East we have been working with a growing number of North East businesses each year, delivering enterprise and business support solutions to help more businesses start, succeed and grow.

Over the past year we have worked with thousands of businesses. Through the Business Link service alone we worked with over 33,200 businesses and individual customers, helped to create over 4,500 businesses and helped to create over 5,600 jobs.

We have also worked with thousands of businesses through a range of other services such as the North East Regional International Trade Office, the North East England Investment Centre and Compete North East. All of these services aim to support businesses and drive private sector groups. We are determined to build on this success and ensure that the North East becomes the best place in the UK – and Europe – to start and grow a business.

There’s no doubt that the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 provides us with 50 very good reasons to feel optimistic about the future of business, industry and commerce in the North East.

The Fastest 50 is a great way of recognising the great business achievements in our region and we look forward to helping more businesses in the region to start, succeed and grow.
